Hurricane Sandy’s Rabbit Hole

This clip is going viral – I posted it on Facebook the other day when there were a few hundred hits, only to discover three days later the woman in the clip is a friend’s mother. Yesterday there were over 12,000 hits – today - over 17,000.

Faith Liguori speaks so eloquently on behalf of all coastal residents still beat up by Hurricane Sandy, and now beat up by insurance companies and government programs. Further, it speaks reams on behalf of fellow Americans everywhere.

Ah…. the good old days, the ones our parents longed for, and my generation longs for now, and hopefully, one that my children will long for too before they move to another country.

America is a land of opportunity where one is supposed to get ahead. Yet, today, half of working Americans with college degrees are overqualified for the jobs they currently hold. But, we already know that as our peers lose jobs and work for half, and our children move home because there is no upper mobility.

WOW – there’s no upward mobility – in fact, there only seems to be downward mobility. What the heck did we allow to happen to America???

Faith’s trunk full of paperwork seems to tell the story better than I can. We buried it under paperwork. And, it seems the banks and the insurance companies hold the key to the safe, but forgot where they put it.

Those of us whom are old enough remember the miserly comedian Jack Benny’s trip to his vault also remember he had no money to share. It was easier to get cash from him, than an answer to what to do next if stuck in Faith’s ‘rabbit hole’.

Faith’s frustration resonates around the nation. America wants Congress to fall off the next fiscal cliff. Many of us think the only thing they are getting done is passing more laws creating more forms, and after all, why shouldn’t they. We allowed it.

Further, the notion that Congress continues to pass laws that regulate and apply to us and not themselves just proves it’s time to remove the elitism and take the country back with the people. I’d like to see government leaders fill out the paperwork without a full staff. It would change tomorrow.

They regulate and strangle our freedoms, further intimidating our weakened, but still great nation and citizenry. Many of us feel Congress is legislating how we should live, instead of empowering and guaranteeing our ability to live.

They regulate and strangle our freedoms, further intimidating our weakened, but still great nation and citizenry. Many of us feel Congress is legislating how we should live, instead of empowering and guaranteeing our ability to live.

Here’s my statement to Congress and to Insurance Companies and to Banks and to any entity making life harder for us to live.

Go away – just go away and don’t come back. We’ve overthrown a tyrannical government once, and as you move to regulate the internet and our basic rights to be free and independent spirits you are sucking the life out of America.

I once had a state senator tell me as he tried to insult me for speaking the truth, “You Realtors, you’re all barracudas.” My still truthful response: “I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s far more of you in jail than there are us.”

None of us have to be mathematicians to figure that out.

Remember, where there’s Faith, there’s Hope!

Now – let’s end this on a laugh – those of us who remember, and those of us who want to learn – watch this YouTube clip: Lucille Ball builds a new vault for Jack Benny:

They regulate all of us, but they leave out the BIG CORPS. like the Ins. companies, banks, Energy and Military contractors, those Corp. folks it seems are endlessly it seems having their nests feathered with our tax dollars. The recent example locally, is how F.E.M.A. is now helping the average homeowner out ( out of the area I mean) by mandating that they raise their homes if they live in the newly created VE zones, or else. Do they for one minute bother to even hazard ( no pun intended) a guess at the sheer chaos their plans are creating in REAL people’s lives? No, they don’t seem to care. It’s easy to sit down in DC at a desk or Trenton and draw red lines on a map, it’s quite something different to wake up one morning and find your home ( which is under those red lines) is now virtually worthless, unless you can find a substantial amount of cash fast to follow this edict. Where do they think these folks are going to find that $$? Haven’t they noticed that the banks aren’t loaning money anymore to most people? Again, they don’t seem to care. The Gov. has some how twisted this forced evacuation order around in his mind to mean we’re ( meaning us, not him of course) going to build bigger and better for the future. What future? Isn’t this the same guy who loaned a Casino we didn’t need a Qtr. of million dollars of tax payer cash? At this rate, anymore “help” from our dear Governor and F.E.M.A.. and we’ll all be ruined. Your right, most of us would just wish they’d go away and leave us be at this juncture.

You’re wrong if you think the big corps aren’t regulated. The problem is the nut jobs that people voted into office who have never held a job outside of government telling small businesses, medium sized businesses and large businesses how to run a business. Even worse is that the idiots in office were reelected after proving they do NOT know anything about business and do not care about unemployment and do not know how to get over the mess they made. No one in DC even reads the regulations before they approve them. If I worked like that I would be fired. Sad to say, the only people that care about the mess Sandy left behind are the people in the Northeast. Where is all the horror that was shown to FEMA and the government regarding Katrina? Where are the reporters and why are they refusing to print the truth? It is a disgrace.

I’m not wrong. Many of these large Corps. have in essence “captured” the regulators and replaced them with a revolving door that allows them to staff said regulatory agencies with Industry friendly people. A near perfect example is Henry Paulson and then Tim Geitner at Treasury, both totally creatures of the big Corp. Wall st. centric banks and brokerages ( now the same thing.)
I could pt. out example after example of the same thing in DC and the States. Big business can afford huge nos. of lobbyists as well, where small business and most mid-sized Enterprises can’t. The deck in DC & to some extent every State Capitol is stacked heavily against small Enterprises and Individuals. Is there regulation, of course, but increasingly it once again is being written by the foxes in the henhouse, so it’s not really regulation it’s the opposite. A really good recent example is how Obama took the desire in most of his own parties base to create a public option or a single payer Healthcare system and how The Health Ins. Industry insiders basically ended up writing Obamacare turning it into a Health Ins. centric profitability system. Or BV$H’s Prescription Drug plan addition to Medicare, where the Drug Industry got the rules written forbidding any ability for the Gov’t to negotiate drug prices. The examples of Industry friendly, so called rules and regulation are more the norm today then the opposite. Oh and for the reporters not being present, why do you think might be? Maybe, because the MSM or Corp. owned media has not interest in situations where other big Corps. are feasting on some portion of the public. The beast we face today is modern day Corporatism or as it’s founder Benito Mussolini called it FASCISM. The right only wants to see the State face of this beast and the left only wants to see the Corp. face of this two headed beast, but in reality it’s one creature with two heads and they both bite.
