How CPAC Dropped the Ball
WASHINGTON - CPAC 2013 continues Friday and the turnout, as expected, is much more than yesterday’s opening day. Thankfully, everyone who missed yesterday will get to hear from conservatives in the next two days they may not know about, and who don’t get a lot of media attention. These conservatives include Mitt Romney, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Michelle Bachmann, Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin.
Do these names sound familiar to you? That’s because they are all run of the mill household names, and all failed Presidential, or Vice Presidential candidates in one respect or another, and all of which have enjoyed constant media coverage in the past few years.
Thursday’s crowd, which in comparison to Friday and Saturday, looked as if no one was here at all, got to hear from Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Allen West, Rick Perry, Mike Lee, Pat Toomey, and Tim Scott.
For the most part, these people are all young up and coming conservative politicians. They are most likely the future of the Republican Party, and are the future of conservative politicians. Many of these names will be running for the Republican nomination in 2016, with Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Allen West and even Rick Perry having the prospect of conceivably winning the nomination.
Why would CPAC not spotlight these people? Why would they not want the maximum amount of attendees at CPAC to hear the messages of these men? CPAC, and all conservatives for that matter, have to get away from these same old politicians who are constantly highlighted in the media and start to build up the future of the conservative movement. They need to focus on the young conservatives who are currently doing exciting and important things and highlighting the erosion of civil liberties and basic rights, whether it be by taking control of the Senate floor in an old school filibuster, or going above and beyond in legislation to defend basic rights against the White House in Texas.
CPAC is a great event that helps to unite likeminded conservatives so they can stand together for conservative principles in our country. However, they have to realize what time it is. They have to realize who the true conservatives are, and who the conservatives are who are really making a difference today, not yesterday. They missed out this year on giving serious time and a serious platform to the person who could very possibly be the next President of the United States.
